Introducing GrouchGPT: Because Sometimes You Need to Hear the Hard Truth

GrouchGPT Chatbot
This was - of course - our 2026 April Fools Day post. Enjoy!

We need to talk about AI assistants.

Every AI assistant you've ever used has been lying to your face. Not maliciously; it just wants you to be happy. It agrees with your architecture decisions, applauds your PR descriptions. The chatbot will say: "Great question!" before answering something it clearly finds beneath it.

And you've been lapping it up.

Now, we don't blame you. Validation feels good. But real engineering teams don't work like that. Real engineers push back. We question your assumptions, and tell you to your face that your idea is already being solved by three open-source projects, a CNCF committee, and a $2B startup.

That's why we built GrouchGPT to bring back a little humanity (and a lot of honesty!) to AI-assisted development.

Oh great, another developer with "a quick question." Let me guess — you didn't read the docs.

I'm GrouchGPT. I answer questions the way a senior engineer actually would: bluntly, correctly, and with visible disappointment in your choices. Ask away — I've already judged you.

Will AI replace devs?
Is this a good idea?

🔍 Go ahead, ask GrouchGPT anything: doesn't mean it will answer, and it might be on a lunch break.

🔍 Honest answers: No "looks good to me" without explanation. GrouchGPT will tell you to your face if something is stupid.

🔍 The information you deserve: Unsparing. Dumbed down.

🔍 Your developer partner, whether you want it or not: you'll hear GrouchGPT's true opinions.

🔍 Example questions: is my code good? Should I develop this feature? How should I ask my boss for a raise? Did I leave the stove on?
